PRESS  RELEASE

 Hispanic-Latin Romance Celebration

‘Bolero” originated in Spain in the 1700s as a dance style. The sensuality and brightness of the rhythm stayed across the time to be part of the classical repertoire.

In the 1930s radio introduced a new style of the romantic song . Great composers like Agustìn Lara (Mèxico), Oswaldo Farrès (Cuba), Rafael Hernàndez, “El Jibarito” (Puerto Rico), were using and imposing this new style of the romantic expression. It was called “Bolero”. Until today, famous Trios, Singers and audiences make possible the presence of this romantic song.

The repertoire is infinite, and the great composers of yesterday and today continue to write themes that express all the emotions of love and passion in our lives.

Our 2009 program honors famous songs by great composers such Agustín Lara who wrote “Solamente una Vez”, the today’s popular themes of Juan Gabriel, Armando Manzanero, Consuelo Velázquez who wrote the world famous “Bésame Mucho”, as well as many others well-known composers such María Grever and Roberto Cantoral.

The songs and the dances were parallel to the style of the times. The ballroom dances like the Tango of the 20s will be present, as well as musicians and composers as the Cuban Dámaso Péeres Prado, creator of the sensational Mambo rhythm of the 50s.

The Hispanic Heritage Society takes pride in its 15 years of promoting culture with its annual program and in offering local artistic talent opportunities to showcase their interpretative qualities. Also, we are proud of our guest artists and groups who, with enthusiasm and professionalism, collaborate with us in presenting quality entertainment while honoring the presence of our cultural heritage and musical traditions.
